Get Your Business on Facebook Now! It's FREE!

Facebook Pages are increasingly becoming a “second home page” for music businesses online. And while more Page owners are learning how to become expert Facebook marketers, Facebook has recently created many new opportunities for Pages to get more traffic through the tried and true methods of search engine optimization.

While Facebook’s “viral channels” – the News Feed, games, invitations, and messages all play a central role in the spread of content through Facebook, employing important SEO tactics within your Facebook Page can help you reach more Facebook fans.

While viral distribution can help you reach people your fans are directly connected to, search engine optimization exposes your Facebook Page to Facebook’s entire user base. In fact, Facebook itself has taken major steps to improve their own SEO, creating opportunities for Page owners to benefit directly while creating added value for Facebook at the same time.

Tip 1:               Give Your Facebook Page a Great Title - and Don't Ever Change It

Choosing the right identity on your Facebook Page is crucial. Stay away from names that appear too canned. You want to encourage users to feel confident in connecting and recommending you. Don't give into the temptation to choose a completely common page title. Facebook's intention for Pages is that they legitimately characterize businesses and brand names and have been disabling updates for common-named Pages.

Work with your store's true title as the name of the page and don't alter it. Facebook makes use of your Page name in the title of the Page, and considering that Google doesn't like it when website titles change, just don't do it. Pick your name and stick with it.

Tip 2:               Add Keywords to the "About" Box

Always place keywords as close to the top of the Page as possible. Due to limitations within Facebook, the “About” box actually offers one of the best places to add custom text. Keep this text clean and concise.

Tip 3:   Make Your Website More Social with Facebook!

Use your Facebook page as the hub of information about your store. The concept here is to gain the reader's interest in your topics and have them click links to your website for continued reading. In addition to standard posts, add your YouTube videos, blog posts and announcements of upcoming events. You don't always need to post the entire article to the Facebook wall. Rather, sometimes just a snippet is equally effective. These snippets are a good place to add related keywords and phrases and provide an introduction (or teaser) to the content.

You don’t want visitors reading all of your content on Facebook, you want to drive traffic to your website. Getting visitors away from your Facebook page and closer to your actual store website brings them one step closer to becoming a customer. This is a great way to build inbound links, help drive traffic and increase sales opportunities.

Facebook offers free tools that will help you to make your website more social. You can use their Social Plugins, such as the "famous" Like Button. Or add their Login and Registration links to help your visitors connect more easily. They offer many easy-to-follow tutorials on these topics and include examples to precisely illustrate what needs to be implemented. Best of all, everything is presented in layman's terms.

Tip 4:              Blogging to Improve SEO and Facebook Connectivity

Blogging has become one of the most worthwhile and cost effective things that you can do in order to improve your SEO. Although they were not started with this intention, blogs have become one of the leading ways that businesses can communicate with their customers.

When blogging, there are a few important things you should be aware of. In addition to being well optimized,  it is important for you to blog often. Set a schedule and post to your blog at least 3 - 4 times per week. It is important that each post relate to your core business in some way. For example, if you sell vintage banjos, you can post about recent trade-ins or renovations. Perhaps you might provide a detailed, step-by-step diary of a restoration project. This alone could build followers of people interested is seeing the project through to completion.

To have a successful blog, it is very important for you to promote each post that you write. You can do this by utilizing an RSS feed to sync your blog with Facebook and other social media that you use. Remember, the most important thing about a successful blog is that you post often, are well written and interesting to read.
